Karen Morrison heads up Eden College Durban

Karen matriculated from Grosvenor Girls High in 1976. She then studied a BSc majoring in Mathematics & Economics at the University of Natal , Durban graduating in 1979. In 1980 completed her HDE (Higher Diploma of Education) and began her teaching career in 1981 with her first post at Grosvenor Boys High teaching mathematics from Grade 8 to Matric. In 1987 she was promoted to HOD at Mowat Park Girls .

Karen took a sabbatical for a few years when starting her family. She has two sons Rowan and Clifford, who both enjoy and use mathematics in their careers. She has taught mathematics at various schools throughout her career spanning 38 years and loves the challenge of teaching mathematics, helping students to problem solve and realise that they too can do maths.

In 2018 Karen was asked to become the principal of Eden College in Durban, which she agreed to as long as she could still teach classes of maths to Grade 11 & 12 as she believes it is important to be in touch with the children and what is happening in the classroom. She is fortunate to have a wonderful staff to assist her in this role.

Eden Sport

Eden College prides itself in offering excellent holistic education which prioritizes top-class academics, however includes sport, culture, leadership and life skills in the programme. Sport plays a major role in this balanced educational offering.

Being a small school has both benefits and drawbacks – on the one hand, every child is offered an opportunity to take part and develop their skills, while on the other, the depth is lacking. Bearing this in mind, the school has achieved a number of enviable results over the years.

Certain junior soccer and hockey teams have been unbeaten in recent seasons and a number of pupils have been selected for representative teams – local, district and provincial – with a dollop of national representation for good measure.

The Eden sporting programme includes a number of ‘standard’ school sports as well as certain interesting pursuits that offer children opportunities in developing life skills beyond the norm. You can peruse the various sports displayed on this website, but are welcome to give our Sports Office a call to chat or to ask questions.
