Head of Eden College Durban
Karen Morrison heads up Eden College Durban.
Karen matriculated from Grosvenor Girls High in 1976. She then studied a B Sc majoring in Mathematics & Economics at the University of Natal , Durban graduating in 1979. In 1980 completed her HDE (Higher Diploma of Education) and began her teaching career in 1981 with her first post at Grosvenor Boys High teaching mathematics from grade 8 to matric. In 1987 she was promoted to HOD at Mowat Park Girls .
She took a sabbatical for a few years when starting her family. She has two sons Rowan and Clifford, who both enjoy and use mathematics in their careers. She has taught mathematics at various schools throughout her career spanning 38 years and loves the challenge of teaching mathematics, helping students to problem solve and realise that they too can do maths.
In 2018 she was asked to become the principal of Eden College in Durban, which she agreed to as long as she could still teach classes of maths to grade 11 & 12 as she believes it is important to be in touch with the children and what is happening in the classroom. She is fortunate to have a wonderful staff to assist her in this role.
